Random Items

    <postdate>Monday, May 15, 2023</postdate>

Normally I work on these folktales on Thursday, but needed to shift the schedule this week to Monday. It felt like a rather random day. Translated "The Sick Lion" from Kromni, The Baker and Qadi" from Ofis, and The Sultan's Servant" also from Ofis.

First, let me note that the tales from Ofis are really entertaining and well-told. There's clearly some strong Turkish influence there, as the baker in the one story was Turkish (his eyes are judged to be twice as valuable as those of a Jewish man whose eye he knocks out). I'm digging around in Dawkins' publications to see if he has written much at all about who the narrators were in that village, but haven't dug anything up yet. Peter Mackridge may have found out more.

What's really nice to report is that I seem to have translated all the folktales that I have in my possession from all the villages/towns/cities other than Oinoe and Kars.
